I love mascara. It’s the one make-up item I can’t live without and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried almost every one out there. I don’t really have a favorite. Now, you’re wondering “Then why am I reading this?” Ha! I often have people ask me what mascara I use so I thought I’d share. I really never use just one. Right now I’m using the two pictured below. I think that, for me, the wand is more the key than the brand. I usually use a Bobbi Brown, but, in a pinch, I grabbed these drug store brands recently and the combo of the anti clump first, “lots of lashes” second has been a great combo. I also like to layer. I do a first coat from the bottom up and then, after that dries a little, coat the top of the lashes, too. This really gives them some length and helps the mascara last all day. What mascara tips or brands can you share? I love to try new things!
Back Porch, Farmhouse, Southern Charm, Burlap and Barnwood, Pecan Pie, Sweet Tea, Front Porch, Vine Ripe Tomato – these are names of candle scents! Every last one of those puts me in a happy place. And, they are gorgeous. I really love candles and this time of year I light them all. The last question my husband asks me each night is “how many candles did you light?” He counts them as blows them out to make sure we got them all. I just love the glow, the smell and the season. Yesterday a sweet friend gave me my first Park Hills Candle in Farmhouse. I mean…. where have I been??? This candle is beautiful and smells great. I just love it. This will not be my last Park Hills, for sure. I have to try ALL the other scents that are so creatively named. I’ve pulled together a shopping list for you below, too. Click any picture to shop. These are awesome gift ideas. I know I loved receiving one as a gift. This gift will keep on giving for 150 hours!
I love this color for Fall and Kendra Scott nailed it with these Red Jasper pieces. They go with a lot of my Fall favorites already in my closet, I’m finding, too. They are a great brick, red jasper, deep red -whatever you want to call it. These pieces really work great to turn a neutral outfit, like a denim dress, into a Fall outfit. I threw them on with a t-shirt and jeans to add some Fall color to my look on days that are just too hot to wear other Fall faves. Great new color that I’ve got on repeat! If you are looking to invest in some new Kendra Scott this Fall, I can definitely recommend this choice. Click the pictures below to shop.
Aren’t these gorgeous? I would put one on under a favorite – or new – blazer and wear that combo with jeans and boots or wedges. I love tie-neck blouses and they are back in a big way. So are ruffles and other feminine details. I popped into J. Crew yesterday and they had lots to choose from. I’ve created a list of my top choices from them below. Come on blazer season! There are many ways to make the blazer/blouse look pop this Fall. Happy Hunting.
OK, just saw the forecast for the weekend and it’s looking like tank weather still. Grab a SMIJ tank, put it on over jeans and enjoy the balmy Fall. Cold weather is sure to be coming soon… Until then we’ve got you. Click a picture to shop.
I can’t tell you how many times I walked past Madewell in Lenox Mall and never thought about going in. I shop surgically. 🙂 I usually have little time and I know my favorite places so I usually hit my top shops – Anthropologie, Nordstrom, etc and there’s not a lot of browsing around. When Madewell opened a location closer to me, I got interested and popped in. Now, it’s become a go-to shop for casual dresses. For example, this great short sleeve denim pullover. Loved wearing this over the weekend. It’s a great transition-to-Fall dress because you can add layers of boots as the weather changes. It’s a great color and the fit is perfection. It’s got pleats in just the right places to make it flattering AND comfortable – a balance that I love.
So… With all that being said, I don’t think this exact dress is still available. But, never fear because I’ve also learned this: There is ALWAYS more than one great denim dress at Madewell!
As a matter of fact, I’ve linked to 20 below. Scroll down and shop the list I’ve put together. Fun!
OK, they come quilted, shiny, embellished, reversible, velvet, leather, oversized, undersized… you name it. Get this! Members Only even has a new one out.
One thing is clear, bombers are in and you can choose fabric and fit and be right on trend. These look great with the platform, statement sneakers you’ll be seeing everywhere this Fall, too. I love this look for a casual Fall day or you can dress these up with boots and skirts. The fit of the bomber jacket and the many fabric options allow for many different looks. They even have a slimming effect when they hit right at the waist. Grab one for the Fall, wear it with everything, be on trend.
I am starting to get into the latest Fall trends and I thought it might be fun to start shopping a few. More and more styles keep showing up as we work our way through September to cooler days ahead. Let’s do this!
The first four trends that have my attention are:(1) Velvet – This fabric is showing up everywhere – again. If you’re in my age group, you may remember this from last time. I still remember a pinkish velvet pullover I got for Christmas one year. Next up (2) Sneakers. Loving the platform sneakers I’m seeing. They look cute with jeans to dresses and I’m all in! Then, (3) Bow Neck Blouses. So classy and cute with jeans or skirts. Try them with raw hem jeans and sneakers like I plan to do.And, of course, the (4) jeans are the best for last. Loving all the frayed, raw edge, uneven and dropped hems. I’ve linked to lots from these four trends below. Shop til you drop!
Well…not what I wore! We started the day getting decorating ideas from the Cashiers Showhouse (last weekend coming up!) so I was more dressed for that. While in Cashiers we decided grab some NC BBQ and hit a “swimming hole” complete with a natural water slide. We got there later in the day, after asking twice for directions, and I never did change into my bathing suit. I was too busy taking pictures and yelling safety rules. Ha! It was so fun and I could barely drag the kids away. There were enough people there to make it fun and festive, but not so many to make it crowded. Everyone was giving advice on where to slide. One dad even did a run so my kids could see his exact best route down the rock. Grant found a slide into a hole in the waterfall. Yes, he disappeared into a waterfall, under water in the middle of a rock. We’d seen a few people doing this so I was reasonably sure he’d pop back up, but I didn’t breathe until he did. I could just see us making the news in a tragic story that left people saying “Well, what mother lets her child disappear into a hole of rushing water in the middle of a mountain?!”. Anyway, thank you God for that cool experience and a happy ending. Here is a link to the rock slide, but plan to ask for directions when you get close. Google Maps led us down the wrong path. And, I do mean “path”. Our car barely fit.
(Here is a link to a bigger slide. We did not visit this one, but plan to maybe next year. Didn’t think this one sounded too kid or over-protective mom friendly.)
One way that I transition a summer dress into Fall is by adding some edgy, heavier pieces. Here I took my favorite summer dress and added some gunmetal, all black accessories, oversize, black sunnies and, of course, some snakeskin. And, to give it a bit more Fall vibe, my new Bond lipcolor. I was cool as a cucumber all day, but looked a little less summery. Have I mentioned how much I love this dress?!?!
