Find the Perfect Dress for ANY Occasion – Parent’s Weekend, Weddings, Fall Brunch

I love dresses!  The options are endless and they can work for all kinds of events and moods from casual to runways.  Not that I spend much time on runways…  Where do you go to find dresses?  I have a spot that is NO FAIL for any occasion.  The one I’m wearing is from a couple of years ago.  For now, I linked to only the ones that passed my 3-second test below and there were 44!  My go-to for dress shopping is Anthropologie.  They always have an amazing selection of dresses.  If you have a Parent’s Weekend, a wedding or really a n y other event coming up, you will not go wrong browsing Anthropologie.  Below are my current faves they have in stock.  Click on any dress to see more.

Dinner Party Wardrobe Changes

Ok, maybe changing for every course could be a bit obnoxious, but… I’ve got the answer.  Aprons are the answer!  I love my Anthropologie apron.  It’s actually very useful to keep my clothes from getting stained during meal prep AND it’s so cute, it’s like an outfit by itself.  So, grab an apron and you can actually wear a second outfit for dinner parties.  Hee Hee!  OK, still obnoxious, but at least, justifiable.  Click on any picture below to shop the apron.

Shimmering Layers

Sticking with the sunkissed and shimmering theme this week…

Loving this new Anthropologie shimmering kimono for summer.  If I had a tan, it would be a great way to highlight the sunkissed look.  Until then, I’ll just enjoy the shimmer in this cute kimono.  It has silver and gold thread in it which makes it look perfect with mixed metal accessories.  Shop my exact kimono by clicking the picture.

My choices for kimonos and mixed metals below, too.

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #24 • If it Shimmers, Flows or Bronzes, it’s in the Bag

I love summer!  Sunkissed is how I prefer life so #24 on our list of 50 Elements of SMIJ Style should maybe be #1.  If it shimmers, flows or bronzes, it’s hard to pass up during the summer months.  I have the Tom Ford shimmering oil which has just been re-stocked at Nordstrom (grab one if you want it because it sells out fast!).  It’s beautiful and smells heavenly.  I love a good bronzer for summer make-up which for me pretty much is limited to waterproof mascara and a couple of swipes of bronzer.  I’m crazy about keeping my face out of the sun so bronzer is a must and I love lots of the Bobbi Brown options (linked below).  Summer beauty must haves include mascara, bronzer and shimmering oil.  Done, done and done!  Shop the list by clicking on any of the pictures below.

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #21 • Add Some Interest with Flip-Flops

Put the finishing touch on a summer tee dress with a cute, wild pair of flip flops.  My two go-to brands for beach and pool are Tory Burch and Havaianas.  They are waterproof, comfortable, fun and really liven up any beachy outfit.  Above I mixed prints which is so scary, but I think I nailed it… if I do say so myself.  I will be wearing the heck out of these wedge flip-flops this summer.  Green is a favorite color, these go with black and white nicely and the wedge gives some comfort and flatters the leg.  Sold!

I’ve gathered some great choices below.  Hope you find your new favorite!

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • # 20 • Own a Favorite Pair of Neutral Wedges

One thing I’ve come to value is a great, comfortable pair of neutral wedges.  These and a pair of flip-flops and you could get away with packing only two pairs of shoes for a vacation (but, who would really do that?!).  My point is that they go with everything – even a black dress.  I love the way they look with anything, anytime.  Get a pair with a good platform for comfort in a color that flatters you own skin tone and you are set for summer with dresses, cropped jeans, boot cut jeans – really, any jeans! – shorts or caftans.

Below, I’ve linked below to a few of my favorites from my two go-to shoe designers.  Enjoy the hunt!

Tying Up Loose Ends this Season – Spring Trend Favorites

It’s all about the fun details around the neck this season, isn’t it?  Off the Shoulder, Button-Up & Collars for Shirting Trend and, a big one that we’re seeing everywhere, is the Lace-Up detail.  I have a few on my wish list.  I took my Free People Lace-Up Tunic out for a spin this week.  Mine is sold out (similar here), but I think I’ve found lots of other fun options, too.  Lace-UP is ON-Trend!

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #9 • A Fabulous Cover-Up is Top Priority

I believe this so much so that I’ve designed and manufactured my own!

But, mine aren’t the only ones I appreciate.  A great cover-up is essential for beach time and it has lots of requirements.  First of all, it needs to … cover you up, but also be flattering, great on a bike, show off a tan, be an extension of your swimsuit and allow room to build sand castles, pull wagons and flow in the breeze.  Whew!  So much for one little piece of fabric to do.  Here are my current faves (mine and others…) with links below the picture.  Happy Beach Days Ahead…

They Came, They Saw, They Conquered – #MyPCM Post #1

Finally made it out to Ponce City Market.  This is just a few miles from my first, and most AWESOME, apartment in Atlanta.  The area is still so fun and… now they have Ponce City Market.  I love to see cities preserving some of history while making something useful instead of an eyesore.  And, it seems the people of Atlanta like it, too.  The place was packed last Sunday afternoon when we visited.  There is too much to cover in one post so I’m going to do this in a Blog Series over the next few days.  And, we did NOT conquer it!  I plan to over the course of a few visits, some of which will not include kids because I need some serious concentrated shopping time there soon.

And, of course, here are my #OOTD details.  This IS a fashion blog afterall…

The Girlfriend’s Guide to Giving Gifts to Girlfriends – all under $30

I love to give thoughtful gifts.  Not necessarily expensive, but thoughtful.  I’ve learned to jot things down in my phone as I see things throughout the year so I can remember them during the gift giving season when my brain seems to go to mush.  I thought it would be fun to share three ideas for thoughtful gifts to give your girlfriends.  Have fun celebrating your girlfriends this holiday season!

Idea #1:  Lipsticks!  First of all, who doesn’t love a new lipstick?  And, you can give each girlfriend a color – or color name – that reminds you of them. Look at some of these fun color names that you could match up to your friends’ personalities:  All Fired Up, AngelCandy Yum-Yum, ChatterboxDangerousDivaFlat Out FabulousGirl About TownHeroineSnobSteady Going…

I bet you already thought of people to match up to those colors.  Shop them HERE.

Idea #2:  Coffee Mugs.  If you enjoy coffee with your girls, a fun coffee mug is a great way to celebrate that experience.  Here are some of my faves:

For the straight shooter HERE; for someone beautiful inside and out HERE; for the mom of boys HERE; for the breakfast cook HERE; the adventurer in your group HERE; your engaged friend HERE; friend that lives out her dreams HERE; or just beautiful, classy, heavyweight initial mugs HERE.

Idea #3:  Tea  Last year a dear friend gave me a nice tin of cinnamon tea and it has been so enjoyable.  I love the idea of giving someone tea.  There are so many flavors and benefits that you can personalize your selection to what your friend might enjoy.  It’s a gift they can enjoy during the cold winter months following Christmas.

Bonus Idea:  An Experience  One of my best friends and I opt for an experience over a gift for birthdays and Christmas.  We go out to lunch of dinner someplace a little more special or time-consuming that our everyday lives usually call for and just enjoy some time together in honor or a birthday or, at Christmas, we include our husbands, too.  This time is very special and better than any tangible gift I could ever receive.

If your brain has turned to holiday mush like mine has, hopefully one of these ideas will work for you or spark your creativity.  Merry Christmas and Happy Hunting!
