Favorite Summer Mani/Pedi Colors

image

I have two go-to summer colors for manis and pedis. I had forgotten about them until I was getting ready for the beach. Here they are: Manicures – Topless & Barefoot and Pedicures – Private Weekend.  Both look great with all your Summer OOTDs and with a tan. Happy Summer!

For Red, White & Blue, Look No Further Than MuMu

For Red, White & Blue, look no further than MUMU.  I built a list of 67 items that I would love to wear – every last one of them passes the “SMIJ-3-second-test” (Scroll all the way down to see all 67).  I plan to spend the weekend at the beach and these MUMU pieces go very nicely in that environment.  From the coffee shop in the morning, to the beach all day to walking up to get ice cream each evening – and especially to see fireworks.  I know which one I’m wearing for the fireworks already!  Click on any of the pictures to shop each piece.  Have fun and get your RED, WHITE and BLUE on!  U.S.A.!

“Mommy, Are You a Pirate?” – One Scarf, Four Ways

I have always loved head scarfs.

In pre-kids days, I’d often drive my VW convertible with a bandana around my hair to keep it out of my face.  These days I go for hats because I’m avoiding sun on my face, but I still love head scarves at the beach and for hiking.  The day I was shooting this post, Reese, asked me if I was a pirate.  Ha!  Not the look I was going for, but I didn’t let that stop me.

Currently, I’m driving a mom-mobile, but someday I’ll be back in that convertible – or Jeep – headscarf back on.  And, no hurry on that, BTW.  I’ll take little voices, even the fighting, for as long as I can hear that.  For now, these bandanas are great for the beach and bad hair days.  I love that bandanas are having a moment and I’m sharing four way to wear them now (see picture above).  I got mine at Nordstom, but you can find them almost anywhere – even in your kids’ dress up bin, I’m sure.  Share with me how you’ll style yours so I can add to the list of options.  Ay Matey!

Heavenly Dress

One last post before the holiday weekend because I just have to share this heavenly dress with you all.  First of all, I’ll be over-wearing this all summer long.  It’s super lightweight, blue and white striped (which works so well for summer), flows in the breeze and is just perfection from head to toe.  I dressed it up with some fun sparklies and wedges for Graduation Parties and dressed it down with red sandals and silver necklace, earrings and ring (Lagos is my go-to set for these days…) for last day of school parties and girls’ weekday lunch.  My point?  This dress works for summer!

Run your cute little booty over to Lou & Grey and grab one for the holiday weekend.  It would even work as a cover-up!  Love, Love, Love!

{I’ve also linked below to many great Lou & Grey dresses.  I have several of their tee and racerback dresses that are so fun for summer, travel and everyday fun.}

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #17 • Be a Head Case

Head bands and scarves are a cute way to say “summer hair, don’t care”.  I often go to my trusty top knot or pulled back low pony tail, but sometimes I like to make my not trying look a little more like I tried.  That’s where headscarves and bands come in.  This one I got at the beach, which is the perfect place to wear these, but there are many choices around town now, too.  See my current faves below.  They look cute with summer dresses, shorts and tees or bathing suits.  Reese looked at me on this day and said with her face all twisted up, “What’s that on your head?”  She immediately stole it for herself.  So, I’ll have to get two of whichever I want, I realize.  Good thing, there are a lot of inexpensive choices around, too.

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #23 • Flamingos Go with Summer

My favorite form of pink in the summer is… FLAMINGO!  I love this little crossbody flamingo bag from Francesca’s. It came in other fun summer things like anchors and watermelon slices, too.  We even have a SMIJ by Jill Flamingo Cover-Up.  I love it over a black bathing suit on a hot July day at the beach. Flamingos and summer just go together and they are a SMIJ style must for every summer.  I pulled a list of lots of fun flamingo options below.  Click away!

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • # 20 • Own a Favorite Pair of Neutral Wedges

One thing I’ve come to value is a great, comfortable pair of neutral wedges.  These and a pair of flip-flops and you could get away with packing only two pairs of shoes for a vacation (but, who would really do that?!).  My point is that they go with everything – even a black dress.  I love the way they look with anything, anytime.  Get a pair with a good platform for comfort in a color that flatters you own skin tone and you are set for summer with dresses, cropped jeans, boot cut jeans – really, any jeans! – shorts or caftans.

Below, I’ve linked below to a few of my favorites from my two go-to shoe designers.  Enjoy the hunt!

Summer Mood

I saw this pile of pineapples in Whole Foods the other day and was immediately in the summer planning mood.  I started dreaming up trips and activities – and outfits, of course, outfits.  And then, as if it were planned, I get an email from BaubleBar with a pineapple theme.  Now, I’m so excited for the upcoming summer and craving juicy pineapple!  I don’t want to rush Spring at all.  Looking forward to a season and all it’s fun is often as much fun as the season itself.  So, for now, I’m be firmly planted in the moment while also planning for a fun summer.  Shop my pineapple picks to get in the mood with me:  SMIJ PINEAPPLE PICKS

50 Elements of SMIJ Style • #13 • Hat Days

I love a good hat day and mine are in constant rotation.  I pretty much put on make-up most days, but often go for a pony tail or hat to skip the do.  Hats I’ve loved forever!  I grew up wearing them for softball games and kept using them right into adulthood.  I love them at football games, sunny days, beach days and just plain old bad hair days.  Here are some faves heading into sunny hat season.
