More Beach, Please – Resort Style

I think the school system must have realized that we all need the beach a few times per school year. I love how we have all these breaks giving us many chances to breathe that sea air. I’m already picking fabrics and styles for Spring/Summer 2018 Cover-Ups and Vacation Shorts. Plan lots of beach days because you’re going to want to wear SMIJ S/S ’18.

Patch up Your Fall

I was out doing my Fall Fashion Research this week and these were the fashion Find of the day, for sure.

The latest fashion trend is to put patches on your denim jackets, jeans, camo shirts, utility jackets and overalls. I’ve seen lots of patches around, but this is the first time I’ve seen pins that look like patches. Brilliant! With these pins from Saks, you can patch up anything, change them and switch clothes. At $10/each they can make great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts and Fall fun.

Fashion Blogger Find: Great Early Fall Dress(es)

I like to follow fashion bloggers. Some I follow are very similar to my style and some are quite different. By seeing the way they put outfits together I discover great brands that fit my style and get challenged to move outside my comfort zone now and then. One of the fashion influencers I follow is Loverly Gray. She is super cute, local and humble and helpful in her InstaStories and posts. She posted this dress a few weeks ago and I just loved it for several reasons. It comes in several colors, it’s a great price point, its embroidery detail is on-trend and it’s a nice transition weight and style. I wore it yesterday for church and brunch and it handled an early Fall Sunday that was in the hot mid-80s like a champ. Check out her fashion blog for all the details on this dress.

Trip Itinerary – Boston, 3 Days with Family

If you’ve been following for awhile, you know I took a big road trip to Boston this past summer.  I realize I never shared my itinerary.  I did a lot of research to try to cover as much as possible with a 3 year old in tow.  I think we did pretty good and we all had an absolute blast.  If you want to plan a trip, too, maybe my homework will give you a head start.

Also, check out my Instagram feed from July – I put lots of details about these pictures and what I loved about my trip to Boston, MA.

I Never Use Just One Mascara

I love mascara. It’s the one make-up item I can’t live without and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried almost every one out there. I don’t really have a favorite. Now, you’re wondering “Then why am I reading this?” Ha! I often have people ask me what mascara I use so I thought I’d share. I really never use just one. Right now I’m using the two pictured below. I think that, for me, the wand is more the key than the brand. I usually use a Bobbi Brown, but, in a pinch, I grabbed these drug store brands recently and the combo of the anti clump first, “lots of lashes” second has been a great combo. I also like to layer. I do a first coat from the bottom up and then, after that dries a little, coat the top of the lashes, too. This really gives them some length and helps the mascara last all day. What mascara tips or brands can you share? I love to try new things!

Can’t Miss at Madewell

I can’t tell you how many times I walked past Madewell in Lenox Mall and never thought about going in. I shop surgically. πŸ™‚ I usually have little time and I know my favorite places so I usually hit my top shops – Anthropologie, Nordstrom, etc and there’s not a lot of browsing around. When Madewell opened a location closer to me, I got interested and popped in. Now, it’s become a go-to shop for casual dresses. For example, this great short sleeve denim pullover. Loved wearing this over the weekend. It’s a great transition-to-Fall dress because you can add layers of boots as the weather changes. It’s a great color and the fit is perfection. It’s got pleats in just the right places to make it flattering AND comfortable – a balance that I love.

So… With all that being said, I don’t think this exact dress is still available. But, never fear because I’ve also learned this: There is ALWAYS more than one great denim dress at Madewell!

As a matter of fact, I’ve linked to 20 below. Β Scroll down and shop the list I’ve put together. Β Fun!

What do you Wear to a Rock Slide? Not this!

Well…not what I wore! We started the day getting decorating ideas from the Cashiers Showhouse (last weekend coming up!) so I was more dressed for that. While in Cashiers we decided grab some NC BBQ and hit a “swimming hole” complete with a natural water slide. We got there later in the day, after asking twice for directions, and I never did change into my bathing suit. I was too busy taking pictures and yelling safety rules. Ha! It was so fun and I could barely drag the kids away. There were enough people there to make it fun and festive, but not so many to make it crowded. Everyone was giving advice on where to slide. One dad even did a run so my kids could see his exact best route down the rock. Grant found a slide into a hole in the waterfall. Yes, he disappeared into a waterfall, under water in the middle of a rock. We’d seen a few people doing this so I was reasonably sure he’d pop back up, but I didn’t breathe until he did. I could just see us making the news in a tragic story that left people saying “Well, what mother lets her child disappear into a hole of rushing water in the middle of a mountain?!”. Anyway, thank you God for that cool experience and a happy ending. Here is a link to the rock slide, but plan to ask for directions when you get close. Google Maps led us down the wrong path. And, I do mean “path”. Our car barely fit.

(Here is a link to a bigger slide. We did not visit this one, but plan to maybe next year. Didn’t think this one sounded too kid or over-protective mom friendly.)

Now, what NOT to wear: CP Shades Linen Dress | Kendra Scott Necklace & Ring | Snakeskin Sandals (these probably fit in)

Fall Color You Can Wear Now – Continued…

{Top Left: Bond; Bottom Left: Uber Beige; Below: Bahama Brown}

The other day I shared that I scooped up a few Fall lip colors. Well, not so much “scooped up” as much as found, tested, tried two different stores and ultimately ordered straight from Bobbi Brown. See the trouble I go through! Happy to do it!

Finally in my possession, we took them on a test run in Atlanta yesterday and…they are keepers. It’s the end of summer and like the end of every summer, I need every beauty treatment available from hair color, to threading to mani/pedi, the list goes on. Still, I soldiered on to try out my new lips and share the experience.

First up, Bobbi Brown’s Bond. It’s a little bit of oxblood, but not quite as deep. Kind of a neutral, wear-everyday oxblood. Great color for Fall and loved it with minimal other make-up for a quick pick-up. It’s amazing the power of lipstick!

Then, I tried Uber Beige. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect nude and this gets pretty close. I love trying nudes with different lip pencils to give them some depth or different shades. I’m loving the Uber Beige and will experiment with the pencils, too.

And lastly, Bahama Brown (below). A little bit of a pinky brown which is usually good for everyday. I love one I don’t have to think about and this will be mine this year.

StyleWatch’s September issue has a great chart of nudes to choose from, too. Love that nudes are in for Fall.

Carried Away, but Smell Great

I can admit it… I am totally obsessed with Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soaps and Room Fresheners. Β I love my house, but since it holds two kids, a very large, old, shedding Lab and I’m always cooking with garlic I’m afraid that I could be “noseblind”. Β Not to mention, my old outdoor cat who seems to have stopped supplementing his diet with regular hunts, has recently been enjoying a diet of canned cat food which really STINKS even though I put the cans in plastic bags in the outside trash. Β He’s happy in his old age, but WOW… the smell… Β I’ve even asked some visitors lately if my house smells bad and begged them to be honest. I think they were, but I’m not taking any chances. Β And, what a good excuse to try all the Mrs. Meyer’s Scents – and they make cute addtions to my home decor, too. Β I’m currently loving HoneysuckleΒ for downstairs.
