When it comes to beach bags I’m in the bigger-the-better category. I love big bags and I cannot lie. I think they actually make my butt look smaller, too. Ha! Too much info there…
Anyway, back to my vanity issues later. Anyhoo… even though I like the big bags I do still like to find things quickly. Kids and the beach are quite the combo. You need lightening fast access to waters, snacks, diapers, toys, sunblock (oh, the sunblock!), SPF lip balm (I’m a little obsessed on this one. Like, I reapply the family every 20 min.), another water because that last one got sand in it (every time), keys to the beach house (how many times a day do you “just run back” for something?) and money – oh and wipes!
Anyway, I’m a big fan of cute “Beach Essentials” bags to hold all the, well, essentials for a successful beach days. Here are a few that would look great in your beach bag. Shop them here.
I think the school system must have realized that we all need the beach a few times per school year. I love how we have all these breaks giving us many chances to breathe that sea air. I’m already picking fabrics and styles for Spring/Summer 2018 Cover-Ups and Vacation Shorts. Plan lots of beach days because you’re going to want to wear SMIJ S/S ’18.
I was out doing my Fall Fashion Research this week and these were the fashion Find of the day, for sure.
The latest fashion trend is to put patches on your denim jackets, jeans, camo shirts, utility jackets and overalls. I’ve seen lots of patches around, but this is the first time I’ve seen pins that look like patches. Brilliant! With these pins from Saks, you can patch up anything, change them and switch clothes. At $10/each they can make great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts and Fall fun.
If you’ve been following for awhile, you know I took a big road trip to Boston this past summer. I realize I never shared my itinerary. I did a lot of research to try to cover as much as possible with a 3 year old in tow. I think we did pretty good and we all had an absolute blast. If you want to plan a trip, too, maybe my homework will give you a head start.
Also, check out my Instagram feed from July – I put lots of details about these pictures and what I loved about my trip to Boston, MA.

I can’t tell you how many times I walked past Madewell in Lenox Mall and never thought about going in. I shop surgically. 🙂 I usually have little time and I know my favorite places so I usually hit my top shops – Anthropologie, Nordstrom, etc and there’s not a lot of browsing around. When Madewell opened a location closer to me, I got interested and popped in. Now, it’s become a go-to shop for casual dresses. For example, this great short sleeve denim pullover. Loved wearing this over the weekend. It’s a great transition-to-Fall dress because you can add layers of boots as the weather changes. It’s a great color and the fit is perfection. It’s got pleats in just the right places to make it flattering AND comfortable – a balance that I love.
So… With all that being said, I don’t think this exact dress is still available. But, never fear because I’ve also learned this: There is ALWAYS more than one great denim dress at Madewell!
As a matter of fact, I’ve linked to 20 below. Scroll down and shop the list I’ve put together. Fun!
Ok, maybe changing for every course could be a bit obnoxious, but… I’ve got the answer. Aprons are the answer! I love my Anthropologie apron. It’s actually very useful to keep my clothes from getting stained during meal prep AND it’s so cute, it’s like an outfit by itself. So, grab an apron and you can actually wear a second outfit for dinner parties. Hee Hee! OK, still obnoxious, but at least, justifiable. Click on any picture below to shop the apron.
I seem to be developing a habit… I’m loving trucker hats with aviators this summer. Great way to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes and there are so many great options right now. My hats are Judith March (with the exception of my Cowgirl Kitchen one) and there are so many other fun ones out there, too. I’ve linked to a bunch below. Cover your summer!
I am a HUGE fan of whoever invented running skirts! I love how they can take me from the tennis court to a run and are quite a bit more flattering than running shorts. Count me grateful! Mine pictured is Lululemon from a few years ago (they really last!), but they have some current great choices I’ve linked to below.
