I love mascara. It’s the one make-up item I can’t live without and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried almost every one out there. I don’t really have a favorite. Now, you’re wondering “Then why am I reading this?” Ha! I often have people ask me what mascara I use so I thought I’d share. I really never use just one. Right now I’m using the two pictured below. I think that, for me, the wand is more the key than the brand. I usually use a Bobbi Brown, but, in a pinch, I grabbed these drug store brands recently and the combo of the anti clump first, “lots of lashes” second has been a great combo. I also like to layer. I do a first coat from the bottom up and then, after that dries a little, coat the top of the lashes, too. This really gives them some length and helps the mascara last all day. What mascara tips or brands can you share? I love to try new things!
I can’t tell you how many times I walked past Madewell in Lenox Mall and never thought about going in. I shop surgically. 🙂 I usually have little time and I know my favorite places so I usually hit my top shops – Anthropologie, Nordstrom, etc and there’s not a lot of browsing around. When Madewell opened a location closer to me, I got interested and popped in. Now, it’s become a go-to shop for casual dresses. For example, this great short sleeve denim pullover. Loved wearing this over the weekend. It’s a great transition-to-Fall dress because you can add layers of boots as the weather changes. It’s a great color and the fit is perfection. It’s got pleats in just the right places to make it flattering AND comfortable – a balance that I love.
So… With all that being said, I don’t think this exact dress is still available. But, never fear because I’ve also learned this: There is ALWAYS more than one great denim dress at Madewell!
As a matter of fact, I’ve linked to 20 below. Scroll down and shop the list I’ve put together. Fun!
I have two go-to summer colors for manis and pedis. I had forgotten about them until I was getting ready for the beach. Here they are: Manicures – Topless & Barefoot and Pedicures – Private Weekend. Both look great with all your Summer OOTDs and with a tan. Happy Summer!
I am a HUGE fan of whoever invented running skirts! I love how they can take me from the tennis court to a run and are quite a bit more flattering than running shorts. Count me grateful! Mine pictured is Lululemon from a few years ago (they really last!), but they have some current great choices I’ve linked to below.
I just could not live without this print once I knew it existed. It reminded me of a beach umbrella and took me to a very happy place. Not to mention it goes nicely with my Shirtdress & Espadrilles program I got going this summer. Shop it HERE and other great items in this print below – even for little girls. Simply irresistible!
In pre-kids days, I’d often drive my VW convertible with a bandana around my hair to keep it out of my face. These days I go for hats because I’m avoiding sun on my face, but I still love head scarves at the beach and for hiking. The day I was shooting this post, Reese, asked me if I was a pirate. Ha! Not the look I was going for, but I didn’t let that stop me.
Currently, I’m driving a mom-mobile, but someday I’ll be back in that convertible – or Jeep – headscarf back on. And, no hurry on that, BTW. I’ll take little voices, even the fighting, for as long as I can hear that. For now, these bandanas are great for the beach and bad hair days. I love that bandanas are having a moment and I’m sharing four way to wear them now (see picture above). I got mine at Nordstom, but you can find them almost anywhere – even in your kids’ dress up bin, I’m sure. Share with me how you’ll style yours so I can add to the list of options. Ay Matey!
Continuing with Driveway Bootcamp today! Talking next workout and running skorts. First, fashion, of course. We’ve been talking about keeping it simple and getting it done. Nothing helps me with that more than running skorts. I can quickly grab a workout outfit that works for tennis, yoga, running or driveway bootcamp. I’m ready for whatever workout I can squeeze in for the day and have a practical – and cute – outfit to get it done in. Here are some favorites:
Now that I’m a few workouts back into my Driveway Workout habit, I took it up a notch or two. Here is a higher impact, longer workout that I did after a few days or low and slow.
Repeat 4 times: (1) 20 walking lunges (Yes, I love these and their results!) (2) Balance Arm Circles (picture below) – Stand up holding one leg extended out in front while holding your arms out to the sides and making 30 small arm circles forward. Next leg, do the arm circles backwards.
Then, 4 times: (1) 10 Burpees with Jump and Push-Up and (2) 20 Standing Elbows to Knees – Stand up Straight, feet shoulder width apart, fingers interlocked (or close to it) behind head. Lift knee up and touch it with opposite elbow trying to stay up as straight as possible. Should feel this in abs.
Lastly, 4 sets of 10 (twice for each leg), do Lunge Kick-Backs illustrated below. Start in a lunge, stand up out of lunge and touch right foot to left hand (balance) and then push right leg back into lunge. Repeat 10 times per leg, 4 sets total.
Abs: Rocking Planks
I like to end with abs and I learned a doozie in yoga the other day. Start in a plank position and rock forward and backward on your toes. Keep your plank perfect and simply shift forward and backward for 10. Do 4 sets of 10. You’ll feel this zip up your core big time – especially at the end of a workout.
Thanks for keeping me motivated to create fun Driveway Bootcamp workouts to share. Again, I stop often in between these exercises to help my little people. I try to just do the best I can, keep my heart rate up, and get it done while enjoying the time with the kids. I know it’s better than nothing. Hope to see the results this has given me in the past soon!
Sticking with the sunkissed and shimmering theme this week…
Loving this new Anthropologie shimmering kimono for summer. If I had a tan, it would be a great way to highlight the sunkissed look. Until then, I’ll just enjoy the shimmer in this cute kimono. It has silver and gold thread in it which makes it look perfect with mixed metal accessories. Shop my exact kimono by clicking the picture.
My choices for kimonos and mixed metals below, too.
Maybe a little too often, I head into the city for so much fun, a change of scenery and just to enjoy this great Southern city. On our most recent city day we hit the Eric Carle exhibit at the High Museum and followed it up with lunch on the sidewalk at Tap. “Kid-friendly” isn’t the first description you’d use to describe Tap when you first arrive or review the menu, but I just couldn’t face “kid-friendly” food this day so we decided to give it a whirl. It turned out to be so much fun. They were very welcoming to the only under-25 in the restaurant, made her a plain cheeseburger and even served it with the smallest, cutest chocolate milkshake just to make her happy. And, my meal was so not kid-friendly and so delicious – a pork taco. I love the High. They always have new exhibits, it’s very kid-friendly and it’s within walking distance of tons of restaurants. You park the car and enjoy a great day. I’m excited for the The Rise of Sneaker Culture exhibit coming in June. I grew up in the AirJordan era and am looking forward to sneakers as art. Hmmm…. Another fun Atlanta day in the books!
